This engraving was taken from the Dore Gallery which contains many of the engravings of French artist Gustave Dore. It illustrates a monkey riding on the back of a dolphin who is aiding what he believes to be a sailor from a shipwreck. When he becomes aware that he is carrying a monkey he dives under the ocean and returns to help someone more worthy of his assistance.
