Conception is Always a Beautiful Beginning

The first idea that pops into our heads when we hear the word conception likely resembles this image in one way or another. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the first definition of conception is the process of becoming pregnant involving fertilization or implantation or both. As an artist, the lesser used definitions of conception are more familiar and exciting and happen daily in the creative process.

a. the capacity, function, or process of forming or understanding ideas or abstractions or their symbols
b. a complex product of abstract or reflective thinking
c. the sum of a person’s ideas and beliefs concerning something
d. the originating of something in the mind

The moment of conception, that brief flash in the mind of an idea or understanding should always be a beautiful beginning of something. It is up to you to be ready for the moment that it arrives and embrace and nourish it as it takes on a creative life of its own.
