Whether you just take a multi-vitamin and go to yoga, or are fully into “green drinks” and juicing, or just stick with your MD’s advice, there are a whole host of alternatives to traditional medical treatment available now, and they practitioners and clients are using the internet to connect.

Here are just a few of these “New Wave” practices:

  • Sound therapy – using a variety of instruments from digeridoo, drums, tibetan singing bowls to the human voice, sound therapy aims to bring the brain into a lower wave range which can induce changes in breathing, digestion and aids the body in relaxation which enables faster healing.  These states can also be reached through meditation or hypnosis.  Typical brains operate at a beta level of awareness, and using sound or meditation techniques can slow the brain waves to an alpha (relaxation) or theta (meditative) and even delta (sleep).  Theoretically, the exposure of the body to sound during these alternative brain wave states induces changes in the energetic “subltle body” (chi or prana) and these changes cascade into the physiological body, producing a cascade of peaceful chemical reactions that aid in healing.

  • Energy Medicine – This type of healing is practiced without physical connection to the patient, and is usually done by someone certified in Reiki, Qigong, Therapeutic Touch or Healing Touch.  These produce measurable effects on the patient and are usually used on the “biofield” (energetic body) to aid in the flow of energy through the system to help the physical body function better.

  • Heart Math Appreciation Tool – Sound a bit hokey or like another New Age Truism?  Science is now catching up to the more esoteric practices, with studies being done at the HeartMath Institute that indicate that not just our brain has an electrical field (think EEG measurements that the doctor sends people to get when they are diagnosed with depression or other mental illnesses) but that our heart also radiates a strong electro-magnetic field that reaches 60 times further than that of the brain.  So adjust your attitude to gratitude for a more coherent heart rhythm and to stave off stress-related illnesses before they become an issue.

So whether you are interested in the more practical scientifically based sound therapy or the more esoteric practices, these days your path to healing is just a click away.
