Owl Eyes Mosaic

How would you like to be a small rodent and see this sight staring at you? You could rest easy if you are a mouse in my house, as it’s actually a mosaic comprised of almost 2000 marble and travertine 5/8th” tiles.

The original image was a photograph I took of an injured Great Horned Owl that my brother found dazed and lying in the middle of the road, an apparent victim of a semi-truck wind wake. The bird looked in pretty good shape, with no broken wings or bones, but was unable to fly and fend for itself.

I got a call from my brother and came over to get some close-up photos of his incredible gaze. After a few days of hand feeding, the owl was released and flew off back into the wild.

His image lives on in my house to keep the mice in check. I think it gives my cat the creeps too.
